COLENSO GOAT PROJECT HERDED TOWARDS COMPLETION

rman Hlubi, head of the Gugwini Trust in KwaZulu-Natal, is pleased that the goat handling facility built on the Gugwini farm in Colenso has been completed. Agribusiness Development Agency (ADA) sponsored the project while construction was undertaken by Lima under the supervision of MBB Consulting Engineers.

Zamokuhle Kunene, the site foreman, said that the twenty young men chosen to build this structure are all part of the Hlubi clan, which increased the enthusiasm of learning as well as the rate of completion as the workers wanted to make their community proud.

Alain Marechal, Engineering Manager at Lima, agreed that the members of the Hlubi Trust are most certainly proud of the level of craftsmanship that has been carried out. “The structure of 400m², consists of seven rooms, each being able to hold 100 goats, includes an inspection chamber, foot dip, toilet, storeroom and a herder’s room,” said Alain.

Norman Hlubi says that the facility, being located close to the main road, will be perfect for buying and selling goats and enhance their business growth. The Gugwini Trust represents fifty families who will all benefit from improved health and market facilities for their goats.
