LEARNING THE CITRUS BUSINESS
The Agricultural Development Agency (ADA) together with the Citrus Growers Association appointed Lima to do a social, legal and institutional assessment of ten land reform citrus projects in KwaZulu-Natal.
The assessment identified areas that required support within the projects, and Lima was appointed to provide this support through a capacity enhancement programme to the projects. Participative planning workshops have been undertaken with five claimant groups in KwaZulu-Natal.
Communal property institutions have been taught administrative skills in business management, legislative compliance and financial management.
The topics were covered on a theoretical level, but were best understood when demonstrated practically. The general comments by participants, expressed how the workshop helped to empower them, improve their business knowledge and make them feel at ease with future financial planning.
