ANGLO REMAIN LOYAL TO THEIR FORMER EMPLOYEES

Mr Nothwanga Notoyi is one of 400 farmers receiving support through a R 9 million micro enterprise support grant funded by Anglo Platinum. With funding, a fence has been built around Mr Notoyi’s homestead garden. He and his wife currently work as security guards for different companies in town but have still found the time to start their own micro enterprise.

“It is not safe working as a security guard, and I do not like my wife working in a dangerous environment. This is why we would like to make farming our full time job. Thanks to the new fence built, no cattle will be able to destroy our crops and we can begin to improve our farming skills,” said Mr Notoyi.

He is presently growing cabbage and spinach, but is very excited about growing new types of vegetables. “I have a seed bed where I am waiting for various seeds to germinate before transferring them into different parts of my garden. I have planted green pepper, potato, spinach and cabbage seeds,” said Mr Notoyi.

Mr Notoyi is looking forward to learning more about agriculture and hopes to eventually produce quality vegetables that are worthy of selling to commercial shops. “I have six small children at home and all of them attend school. The money earned from farming will help us ensure they have a promising future,” said Mr Notoyi.
