ITS PLAY TIME FOR THE TODDLERS AT NKOSIYABANTWANA CRECHE

A large jungle gym has been constructed at Nkosiyabantwana crèche (KwaNjoko village) in Nongoma, KwaZulu-Natal, by CWP participants with the supervision of engineering foreman Mr. Blose. The Department of Co-operative Governance sponsors CWP, which enables Teba Development and Lima to provide all the tools and facilitation services.

“The crèche currently caters for 52 children that have never had the pleasure of a jungle gym before. Play is an important part of early child development because it enhances gross motor skills,” said Nqobile Nyathikazi from Lima. Nqobile added that a garden next to the crèche maintained by CWP, provides a feeding scheme for the crèche.

Mrs. Harriett Nxumalo is the founder of Nkosiyabantwana crèche, and has taken care of toddlers since 1997 as she saw the need in her community for a child minder. There are at present, two mothers helping teach the children, but this is challenging with such a large number of children. The children need education specific to their age group, in order to promote cognitive growth for their particular stage of development. The CWP is on the look out for participants to teach  at the crèche in the New Year.
